Judge-trainers seminar launched within the “Equal Justice for All in Mongolia” (EJAM) project

The Judicial Academy of Mongolia, in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute of Canada, launched a two days seminar for Judge-Trainers today, April 14, 2026, under the framework of the “Equal Justice for All in Mongolia” (EJAM) project. 

This seminar is organized to strengthen the leadership of Chief Judges, prepare Judge-Trainers in the field of Family and child rights law, and establish the necessary conditions for organizing subsequent training programs in a systematic and effective manner. The sessions are being led by distinguished judges from the Superior Courts of New Brunswick and British Columbia, Canada, alongside experts from the National Judicial Institute of Canada.

Opening the event, The Justice D. Munkhtuya, Presiding Justice of the Chamber of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court of Mongolia, stated: “The leadership of Chief Judges is paramount in enhancing judicial transparency and its effectiveness. I am profoundly delighted to see this training—which we have been preparing since 2024—come to fruition today as we begin the program for Judge-Trainers under the EJAM project. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the working group members who developed the curriculum, as well as to the staff of the Judicial Academy and our colleagues from the National Judicial Institute of Canada for their cooperation.”

Furthermore, Tom Crabtree Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia and Chief Judicial Officer of the National Judicial Institute added: “Enhancing public confidence in the judiciary is a critical objective. To achieve this, we prioritize the continuous empowerment of judges through education and skill-building. I am confident that these two days will be more than just a lecture, they will serve as an active platform for a mutual exchange of ideas. We look forward to studying the current needs of the Mongolian judiciary and creating an environment for mutual learning.”

The first day of the program featured presentations and discussions on topics such as “Judicial Education as a Pillar of Judicial Independence,” “Judicial Education Pedagogy,” and “Digital Resources.” These sessions were conducted by The Honourable J.C. Marc Richard, Chief Justice of  Court of Appeal of New Brunswick; The Honourable Justice Tom Crabtree; Pamela Tripp, Director of International Education at the NJI; and Florence La Charité-Harbec, Counsel of th National Judicial Institute.

Following this, D. Erdenechimeg, Director of the Judicial Academy, presented the digital training platform developed specifically for judges.

At the conclusion of the day, participants engaged in a dialogue regarding the practical application of the knowledge gained and shared insights on educational methodology. To wrap up the session, Director D. Erdenechimeg and Justice Tom Crabtree summarized the day’s outcomes and wished success to the Judge-Trainers.

A total of 13 Judge-Trainers are participating in the seminar across two specialized tracks:

  • Judicial leadership: B. Zorig, Chief Judge of the Criminal Court of Appeal in the capital city, D. Nyambazar, Chief Judge of the Civil Court of Appeal in the capital city, E. Lkhagvasuren, Chief Judge of the Administrative Court of Appeal, I. Amartugs, Chief Judge of the Bayanzurkh, Sukhbaatar, and Chingeltei District First Instance Circuit Court of Civil Cases, B. Khishigbaatar, Chief Judge of the Bayangol, Khan-Uul, and Songinokhairkhan District First Instance Circuit Court of Civil Cases, B. Dashdondov, Chief Judge of the Bayangol, Khan-Uul, and Songinokhairkhan District First Instance Circuit Court of Criminal Cases.
  • Family and child rights law: N. Bayarmaa Presiding Justice of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court of Mongolia, N. Batchimeg Justice of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court of Mongolia, Kh. Erdenesuvd Justice of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court of Mongolia, B.
