Training on “Judicial Engagement with the Media” Successfully Conducted

The Judicial Training, Research and Information Academy successfully organized a four-day training program titled “Judicial Engagement with the Media” from February 3–6, 2026. The training was held within the framework of the project “Cooperation and Transparency of the Judiciary” (2024–2026), funded by the European Union and implemented in cooperation with the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) and the Twinning Project.

The training featured distinguished experts from Germany, including Dr. Marc Petit, Member of the Constitutional Court of Schleswig-Holstein and Presiding Judge of the District Court of Lübeck, and Dr. Laurent Lafleur, Judge and Head of the Information Office of the Higher Regional Court of Munich. The experts shared their experience in judicial-media relations and the use of social media by courts.

The sessions were facilitated by S. Nasanjargal, Head of the Information Center of the Judicial Academy; Dr. L. Ariun, Professor at the University of the Humanities; Dr. Ts. Oyuntungalag of the Press Institute of Mongolia; O. Ariunbileg, President of the NGO “Journalism for Sustainable Development”; Ts. Chimeddondog, Trainer at the Mongolian Center for the investigative reporters; and B. Battsengel, Freelance Journalist.

The training covered the following topics:

  • General trends and concepts in media and public relations
  • Expectations of media organizations and journalists toward the judiciary
  • Institutional needs of the judiciary and decision-making methodologies
  • Establishing effective communication with the media and selecting appropriate editorial platforms
  • Simplifying court decision summaries
  • Methodology for drafting press releases and giving interviews

During the training, Ts. Tsogt Justice of the Supreme Court of Mongolia proposed introducing a “Judge–Press Spokesperson” model. In addition, Dr. B. Dulguun, Secretary of the Academic Council of the Judicial Academy, presented a draft guideline on communication with the media and the public based on the proposed “Judge–Press Spokesperson” model.

More than 100 participants, including Chief Judges and public relations specialists from the judiciary, attended the training and received certificates upon completion.
